FootyMate — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How following a club, reminders, calendar sync, Premium, and refreshing actually behave. If something here does not match what you are seeing, get in touch.

The basics

What is FootyMate?

An app for following one football club — its fixtures, results, kickoff reminders, match detail, and league position. You choose a league and a club once, and the whole app is about that club.

Which leagues and clubs can I follow?

Twelve leagues: the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Eredivisie, Primeira Liga, Süper Lig, Saudi Pro League, Major League Soccer, J1 League, and K League 1. You follow one club from one of them at a time.

Can I follow more than one team?

No. FootyMate is built around a single club, and that constraint is what keeps it quiet.

Which competitions do I see for my club?

Your club's fixtures across the competitions the data provider publishes for it — the league, domestic cups, continental tournaments, and friendlies — with a filter to narrow to one. The league table itself is the league you selected.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, login, or email.

How do I change my team?

Settings → Change Your Team. This resets the app: saved football data, FootyMate reminders and calendar events, and preferences are cleared, and you go back to league and club selection. There is a confirmation step, and an active subscription is not affected.

Who makes FootyMate?

Independent developer Kanyanta Mubanga.

Reminders

How do reminders work?

They are scheduled on your device and arrive even when the app is closed. Premium reminds you before every match at your chosen lead time; Free sends occasional alerts for selected matches.

What counts as "occasional" on Free?

A subset of your club's fixtures rather than all of them, fixed at two hours before kickoff, with a minimum gap between alerts so a congested run of matches cannot turn into daily notifications. The selection is spread across the season and stays stable as matches are played. Free users cannot choose the timing.

What lead times can Premium use?

Setup offers one hour, three hours, or a day before kickoff. The full reminder editor then allows kickoff itself, 30 minutes, one hour, one day, or a custom lead time, and any individual match can be overridden from its own reminder sheet.

Will a reminder follow a rescheduled match?

Yes. The schedule is rebuilt whenever fixture data updates, so a moved kickoff moves its reminder and a postponed match loses one. Because updates happen while the app is running, a change is picked up the next time you open it rather than the moment it happens.

Do reminders survive a restart?

Yes, and they are never duplicated.

Does FootyMate send goal alerts?

No. Every alert is a local reminder scheduled ahead of kickoff. There is no push service behind the app.

My reminder arrived late.

On some Android devices, battery optimization can delay scheduled alarms. Allowing exact alarms for FootyMate and excluding it from battery restrictions helps.

Calendar

How does the calendar feature work?

Premium users add a fixture individually from its match page, or add all upcoming fixtures at once from Settings. Each event is titled with both clubs and the competition, starts at kickoff, runs about two hours, and carries the venue, round, and referee in its notes where available.

Will FootyMate change my other calendar events?

No. It keeps a record of the events it creates and can only ever modify or remove those.

What happens to a postponed match?

Its reminder is dropped and its calendar event is removed once the app has received the updated fixture data. A moved kickoff updates the event in place.

How do I remove the events again?

Remove a single match from its calendar action, or use "Remove all Footymate events" in Settings. That control is never locked behind Premium.

Which calendar do fixtures go into?

On iPhone and iPad, FootyMate prefers a dedicated calendar named Footymate through Apple's Calendar, and you can open Apple's own event editor to change an event in place. On Android, fixtures are written to a writable calendar on your device.

Premium and subscriptions

Is FootyMate free?

Yes. Fixtures, results, the league table, recent form, home and away splits, club breakdowns, and occasional match alerts are free. FootyMate Premium adds more.

What does Premium include?

A reminder before every match at a time you choose, per-match reminder timing, calendar sync, the match centre with statistics, lineups and event timeline, and faster refresh allowances.

How much is Premium?

Pricing is set by the App Store and Google Play and varies by country, so the current plans are shown in the app. Monthly, six-month, and annual options are available.

Is there a free trial?

Sometimes. Eligibility is decided by the store, and the app only mentions a trial when the store has confirmed you qualify.

How do I restore a purchase?

Settings → Subscription → Restore purchases.

How do I cancel?

Through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. The app links you straight there, and it never cancels or alters a subscription itself.

What happens when Premium ends?

You keep your club, fixtures, and settings, and occasional match alerts continue on Free — your consent to alerts is not thrown away, so you are not asked again.

Future FootyMate-created calendar events are removed; past ones stay, because they are a record of matches that happened. Your chosen reminder lead time is set aside and restored if you resubscribe.

Does an App Store subscription work on Android?

No. There is no FootyMate account linking the two platforms, so each store's subscription is separate.

Data, refreshing and privacy

How often does data update?

On Free, about once a day for fixtures and about once a day for the table. On Premium, fixtures on roughly a five-minute allowance and the table about hourly.

These are allowances, not schedules. Nothing refreshes on its own — they only decide whether a refresh you triggered is permitted. Premium raises FootyMate's own allowance; it does not bypass the data provider's limits.

Is it live?

It shows live scores and match status, and Premium adds stats, lineups, and the event timeline while a match is on. Updates are periodic rather than second-by-second, and it does not send goal alerts.

My fixtures look out of date.

The status line under the filters shows when they were last updated. On Free that is about once a day — tap refresh, or upgrade for the shorter Premium allowance. If a refresh fails, your saved fixtures stay exactly as they were and the app says the update failed rather than emptying the list.

Does it work offline?

Saved fixtures and standings stay available with their last-updated time shown. A first load, and anything not already saved, needs a connection.

Why do some matches have no lineups or stats?

The data provider does not publish the same depth for every competition. Friendlies and some cups are sparse, formations are not always available, and detail often firms up closer to kickoff.

Where does the data come from?

api-football.com. FootyMate is independent and is not affiliated with any club, league, or federation.

What data do you collect?

There is no account, no advertising, and no analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting SDK in the app. Your club, saved data, and settings stay on your device, and uninstalling removes all of it. The full statement is in the privacy policy.

Which permissions does it need?

Notifications for reminders and calendar access for adding fixtures — each requested only when you use that feature, never at launch.

Devices and platforms

Is FootyMate available on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later, and free on Google Play for Android 7.0 and later.

Does it run on Mac or Apple Vision?

The App Store lists compatibility with Apple Silicon Macs and Apple Vision through Apple's compatibility program. That is the iPhone and iPad app running there, not a purpose-built Mac or Vision experience.

Which languages does it support?

The App Store lists FootyMate in English plus Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish.

Is there a web version or an Apple Watch app?

No. FootyMate is an iPhone, iPad, and Android app. There is no web app, watch app, or widget.

Still need help?

Support is one person and one email address, which is usually faster than it sounds.
